10 Best DIY Decorating Blogs
It's Top 10 Friday again! This time we're talking about something near and dear to my heart— decorating. I hope you're as excited as I am! But here's the deal, it's a long, long post (with lots of awesome info , I might add), so we're doing something we don't normally do…splitting it into two parts. If your favorite site isn't listed on today's post, no worries, check back with us next Friday. You'll likely see it then. In the meantime, Happy Friday!
10 Best DIY Decorating Blogs
The fact that I work for a moving company means that every single day I have conversations with people who are clearing out rooms, boxing stuff up, and entering a new phase of life. So exciting!! I totally get that the "moving out" part isn't that much fun. But I could definitely see how a person could get happy about the "moving in" part. Starting over with a fresh pallet and decorating just how you want. Lovely. I know exactly how I would handle it; many a sleepless night rearranging furniture and picking out paint colors in my head. Been there?
The good news is with just a quick Google search of "best DIY Decorating Blogs" you'll find some fantastic blogs, written by incredibly talented women and men who were born to decorate. Crafty, talented people— they impress me. With a little help from my Facebook friends and Twitter followers, I've compiled a list of the 10 Best DIY Decorating Blogs. They're in no particular order. In fact, I think you'll find something to love about all of them. While you're at it, make sure to check out pinterest.com and olioboard.com. They're great places to organize your cool, creative ideas and fun home decorating finds.
Here they are…the 10 Best DIY Decorating Blogs (in our opinion)
A Soft Place to Land I. Love. This. Blog. If A Soft Place to Land isn't a good name for a blog, I don't know what is. It's written by a super-crafty and talented lady named Kimba, and is chock-full of unique, crafty DIY home décor ideas. I love that she throws in tutorials and LOTS of before-and-after photos. My favorite posts are those where she re-finishes furniture and, of course, the room makeovers. Who doesn't love a good room makeover? Really, it makes me want to go to Hobby Lobby. She's all about making her home (and yours) pretty. Check her out. For real.
Young House Love Young House Love is written by Sherry and John Petersik, a young married couple from Richmond, Virginia. They're self-proclaimed "DIY dorks" who write this blog to share the adventures of renovating their 49-year-old home. Among other things, they've written for Better Homes & Gardens and BabyCenter, they've appeared on HGTV (their bedroom was an "inspiration room" on Rate My Space), and on The Nate Berkus show. Impressive. The before and after photos (complete with diagrams) are fabulous and I love, love, love the how-to's. My favorite post (so far) is The Laundry Room: Done. Not because I have a great love for laundry rooms, but because it gives some helpful tips for hanging a mirror (which I would translate to hanging pictures). There would definitely be more picture hanging going on in my house if it were easier. This makes it easier. Good job Young House Love. You're awesome. Nesting Place Ahhh. There's so much to love about this blog too. "It doesn't have to be perfect to be beautiful". I love that. It's written by "The Nester" (obviously her pretend name) and she makes known that it's not a DIY blog or a typical decorating blog— but instead a blog about "how to think about your home". I'll make known though that it's still packed with great DIY decorating ideas, photos and cool thrift store finds— and it helps that she's got a lovely knack for writing. I love thrift store shopping, so this is my favorite post: http://www.thenester.com/2011/02/final-thoughts-on-thrifting.html. Definitely a top 10 DIY blog. And definitely one I'll put on my "read every day" list.
