10 Best Home Organization Blogs

In honor of my LOVE for top 10 lists (and I hope yours too), I'm happy to introduce MoveBuilder's "Top 10 Friday". Each Friday from now on, you'll find a fun, informational top 10 list that's sure to be a great read and maybe even add to your arsenal of knowledge.

So let's kick it off right with one of my favorite topics…Organization.

10 Best Home Organization blogs

  1. A Fresh Start

While most professional organizers like Gail Gray have blogs that are super clean and organized, A Fresh Start seems to do it better than most. If you have a great need to tame the paperwork taking over your home (join the club), you'll find great tips on how to do that. You can also see lots of impressive photos that actually show you how to do it, and a list of categories covering anything you can imagine— from things you can do to organize your garage to things you can do to get ready to move (which is especially interesting to us). My favorite posts so far? The I'm Not Martha Monday series and the 28 Days to Fall in Love With Your Home series. I'll say it…I'm hooked.

  2. The Clutter Diet Blog

While the word "diet" doesn't usually sit well with me (who really likes that word, right?), this blog offers some great information…so I'll go with it. Its author, Lorie Marrero, is also author of the Clutter Diet book, a best-seller you can find at amazon.com. By-the-way, I'm a huge fan of video tips (as long as they're short and to the point), and this blog does it well with some great DIY organization and decluttering advice.

  3. FlyLady

O.K. so the colors and layout of this blog are a little overwhelming, I'll admit. But it really offers some great tools and information, and people love it! Marla Cilley, the FlyLady (she got the name because she loves to teach people to Fly Fish), and her contributors have some great things to say. They start with "Beginner BabySteps" and give you a FREE way to change your life (when it comes to clutter, routine, and managing your home). It's a 31 day system that will likely change your life. I'm starting it tomorrow.

  4. Go Mom!

Hello organized mom. Where have you been all of my life (or at least the past 5 years since tiny clothes and no sleep has been part of it)? This blog is built around helping mom's get organized. And if you're a checklist fan, you'll like the free, downloadable checklists offered here. Love. Them. Another thing I think you'll love is the DIY Go Mom! Planner. It's a downloadable file you can print off and put into a binder that has entries for your grocery list, gifts, addresses, school contacts, activities, babysitter contacts, medical information etc. And, if you like DIY videos, you're at the right place.

  5. Organized Home

This blog speaks to me because it seems to focus a little more on cleaning tips. I'm a cleaner. I love all things cleaning related. If you've got an infomercial that sells me something that's going to magically clean my wood floors, showers and toilets …I'm buying it. So organizedhome.com has become one of my favorites. Here you can figure out how to clean house, cut clutter and get organized. And, the posts are eloquently written by Cynthia Townley Ewer, who is also the author or House Works – How to live, clean, green and organized at home (available at amazon.com).

  6. Organizing Junkie

This is a blog written by Laura, a self-proclaimed "organizing freak". Outside of writing for this blog, she has a professional organizing business and wrote a book called Clutter Rehab (which can be found on amazon.com) with 101 organizing, de-cluttering and simplifying tips. As you might suspect from an organization junkie, orgjunkie.com is very simple and well designed…you'll find resources like room-by-room storage solutions, purging tips, before and after pictures, time-saving tactics and tools for planning menus (my personal favorite). She's also doing a cool series called "52 Weeks of Organizing". The challenge? Create a list of 52 organizing projects or habits you want/need to tackle around your home. Complete one (or more) a week and come back to the blog on Fridays to discuss. The challenge is designed to be a motivator, and that it is.

  7. Radiant Organizing

This blog is all about productivity, organization and saving time. As a mom who works outside the home, that's what I like. Posts I loved? The 12 Days of Timesavers series and Simple & Easy Solutions for Jewelry (If you've seen the top of my jewelry-covered armoire, you would understand).

  8. Simple Mom

If you're a "home manager", this blog is for you. It's full of tips and tools designed to help you live more simply— so you can enjoy, and manage your daily life at home. Sounds great to me! Tsh Oxenreider, the blog's author, is an extremely talented writer (in my opinion). She drew me in at the get-go. And it helps that she chooses great guest bloggers to add a little extra expertise. If you like what she has to say here, you can also get her book Organized Simplicity at amazon.com. A couple of my favorite posts: How to Travel Long Distances with Little Ones (because I have a 2-year-old and a 5-year-old…neither of whom like to travel) and all of the Project: Simplify posts.

  9. The Stow Company

This one is a little different from the other picks...The Stow Company manufactures organization solutions for your home— like pantry organizers, laundry storage, closet organizers, mudroom storage, etc. You'll find their stuff at easyclosets.com and proclosets.com. The blog is written by employees of the Stow Company, all of whom seem to love their job, and love to encourage folks to get organized. A refreshing sight (and site). Conquering My closet: 69 Pairs of Shoes, is one of my favorites…except at my house my husband would probably call it 169 Pairs of Shoes.

  10. Unclutterer

I really like the name of this blog— just the thought of the word "unclutter" makes me smile. The blog's editor, Erin Doland, is a self-proclaimed converted pack rat. Her commitment to leading a clutter-free, simplified lifestyle, and book titled Unclutter Your Life In One Week has brought about appearances on the Rachel Ray Show and in publications like the New York Times and Real Simple Magazine. Conclusion…she knows what she's talking about when it comes to organization and simple living. Something you'll love? The Forum tab. Very helpful, informative stuff.
