Compare Prices for Moving Trucks

My husband is obsessed with his iPhone®. It's a fact. But I'm kind of glad (emphasis on "kind of") because he found a snazzy app called RedLaser 2.2.  If you don't have it, you should. It's a real-time scanner that reads a barcode on any product and instantly compares prices. Awesome. So, when I'm at a local store and find a product that I LOVE, but it's a little on the expensive side, I can check to see if there's a better deal at another store. LOVE.IT.

Wouldn't it be cool if there were an app like that for services like moving?  If you've been researching moving companies long, you've seen that moving experts advise that you always compare prices for moving trucks before you choose one. And that's excellent advice.  Just be aware that when you're comparing prices for moving trucks, you're comparing more than the price— you're comparing reputation and service options too.

Although it would be much easier to just pull a little moving truck off the shelf, scan it, and get an instant list of moving companies that offer the exact services, comparing prices for moving trucks obviously takes more work. You'll likely need to visit a few websites, talk to a few moving service representatives and take a look at a few consumer reviews.  Then, when you find a moving price you like, determine what you're getting for the price.

Ask these questions:

  • Are you getting door to door moving services? 
  • Who does the packing, loading and unloading?
  • Are all drivers and moving labor experienced and qualified?
  • Are fuel, taxes or other service fees included in the price? 
  • What additional charges should I expect?
  • How is the price calculated? 
  • What if I need more or less space/weight or more/less moving supplies than is included in the moving estimate?
  • What type of coverage do I have?

Once you know the answers to these questions, comparing moving truck prices becomes much easier.
