Of course you want to give your friends something to remember you by when they move away— something that fits their personality and yours perfectly. So we've put a lot of thought into it and come up with a list of great going away gift ideas:
Restaurant Gift Cards
If you've ever moved before, you know that it's quite a chore to get the house completely put together and ready to live in— specifically the kitchen. And you know what that means? A lot of eating out which results in more moving expenses. So checkout local restaurants and get gift cards for a couple of different places you think they'll like. Now you've helped them avoid extra moving costs and explore their new town at the same time.
Entertainment Gift Cards
Since it's likely you know the kinds of things your friends like, do a little research and find what kind of entertainment options are available in their new city. Think of things like museums, zoos, amusement parks, theaters, sports events etc. Order gift certificates, memberships, season passes etc. — fun and enjoyable going away gifts!
Going Away Gifts for Creative Types
Make something homemade! O.K., so I'm not that creative, but I've got tons of friends who are and could totally pull this off. Paint a dish, make pottery, knit or crochet a scarf, paint a canvas…create something that can be used in their new home. They'll remember you every time they see it.
Going Away Gifts for Collectors and Enthusiasts
Collectors are some of the easiest people to choose gifts for. Just be on the lookout for a special edition of the thing they collect, or a fun version of the item to add to their collection.
So, some people aren't necessarily collectors, but definitely are lovers! You know what I'm talking about…the people who LOVE coffee, tea, certain types of food, a certain sports team etc. Consider a specialty flavor of their favorite drink, a unique mug or teapot, sports memorabilia etc.
Going Away Gifts from the Group
This is the one I like! The going away party. Nothing makes a person feel more loved than a great party in their honor. So get a group of friends together and shower them with love and gifts to let them know they'll be missed.
A great group gift is a scrapbook. Each person in the group gets one or two pages to add their personal touch too— a great place for photos and memorabilia. Then, have Polaroid cameras at the party to snap photos that can be added to blank pages as the night progresses. FUN!
