How much does it cost to rent office space in NYC?

Have you ever watched the show Selling New York on HGTV? I’m completely intrigued by it and without fail completely blown away by how much the homes cost. I think it comes from being an Arkansan, where you can purchase a kempt, three-bedroom, two-bath home for less than $150,000. Now, compare that to a three-bedroom, two-bath home in New York City (specifically Midtown) and don’t be surprised to see numbers that look more like $2.5 million.  It’s amazing what a little change in geography can do.

It’s probably no surprise that if the cost to purchase property in New York City is so much higher comparatively, that the cost to rent is too.  Renting a three-bedroom, two-bath home in Arkansas is usually less than $900/month, where the same home in Midtown could be as much as $10,000/month.  And what about opening a business? What type of price tag can an entrepreneur expect in or around New York City? This Renting in New York infographic, just released in the MoveBuilder Press Room, is a great picture of what you’ll likely see if you’re paying rent on office space in NYC.  Any guesses what area is priced highest at $63.35 per square foot?

If you’ve moved to New York City lately, especially from a location with a lower cost of living, we would love to hear how you made the transition.
