Moving a Mattress

I'm not sure about you, but one of the things I love the most in my house is my mattress.  In fact, I love all things that make for a fabulous night's sleep.  That means I spent a lot of time in mattress stores, laying on one after another, until I finally found the mattress of my dreams (pun intended).  Something tells me I'm not the only one who feels this way.

So, if you're moving a mattress that you love, I'm sure you'll want to make certain it's protected so it's as comfy at your new house as it was at your old.

Here are a couple of tips for moving a mattress and protecting it in the process:

  • We recommend always placing it in a mattress bag specially designed for mattresses and box springs. This will protect it from getting soiled if it brushes across the floor, walls, or other objects.
  • If your mattress will be stored for any period of time, or if you have a mattress with a declared value of over $1500, we recommend a mattress carton. It is designed to reduce the risk of structural damage to your mattress while it is being moved or stored.  Keep in mind that if your mattress has a declared value of over $1500, MoveBuilder requires a waiver if you choose not to pack it in a mattress carton.

Mattress bags or mattress cartons are not automatically supplied with your move, so please let your MoveBuilder know how many you're planning to move that require mattress bags or cartons. That way the movers will be prepared on your moving day.

Keep in mind that Tempur-pedic (memory foam) mattresses require special care when being moved.  We'll talk about them more in a later post.
