Moving Discounts for the Winter Months

Saving money on your winter move
Do you notice yourself looking for discounts for every purchase you make these days? Result of the economy? Likely.

I have a feeling I'm not the only one searching for a coupon code every time I make an online purchase. If the checkout has a placeholder for a coupon code, you better believe I'll try to find one before I complete the transaction. Saving money is a big deal. And even though a $25 or $50 coupon may not seem significant when you're talking about the price of a move, anything helps!  Even a small moving discount can pay for a meal on the road, or a tank of gas.

The good news is you can usually save more than the value of a coupon if you've got a little flexibility with your move— namely, if you're able to move during the fall/winter instead of during the spring/summer.  If this is the time of year you're planning to move, congratulations…you're likely to save money!  If you've ever gotten a moving estimate during the summer, then compared it to an estimate with a winter move date, you know exactly what I'm talking about— some pretty significant moving discounts.

Since we're officially moving into the "off" season for moving, this is a great time to talk about the moving discounts you'll see in many areas. The "peak" season usually starts in May, when school lets out for the summer, and it usually ends in September, when school gets back into session.  Because of equipment and driver capacity issues (so many people are moving), prices usually go up in the summer (similar to how airline prices go up around the holidays and hotel prices go up when there's a special event that puts them at capacity). The reverse happens in the "off" months— equipment needs to be repositioned and there are less people moving. Lower demand usually means lower prices.

It's easy to see if the area you're moving from and to are discounted for the "off" season. Just call MoveBuilder at 800-968-1276, and a MoveBuilder representative can quickly check for you.
