The Top Ten Largest Cities by Area in the United States

So we learned where the largest cities by population are around the U.S. But where are the largest cities by area? Having the most people doesn't necessarily mean having the most land area. If you know anything about popular cities, you know that people live on top of each other - literally. High-rise buildings that create housing go up all the time in these highly populated areas. So I set out to see the areas where people can actually spread out.

Largest Cities by Area in the U.S.

There are some really big cities out there with not a lot of people. The density of how many people per square mile tells a lot. Some of the places offer a lot of privacy if you want it. I want to mention that some of these areas include "consolidated city-county" areas which could be wilderness and rural areas. I can't decide if I'm surprised or not with the list. It doesn't really seem to follow a set of rules, does it? Only two of the Top Ten U.S. Cities by population made the area list (Houston and Phoenix). Some of those places must be pretty crowded. Especially New York City, it was number 17 and has a population density is 27,016 people per square mile. You really need to "love thy neighbor" in New York City, that's for sure.
